Prologue

The world has changed.  Disaster struck the Earth.  A massive solar flare hit the planet head on, frying the main power grids on the ground and destroying most of the satellites in orbit.  Panic and chaos followed within hours of the power failure.  With no forms of communication working, people began to take matters in their own hands.  All of the nuclear facilities became unstable in a matter of weeks.  Most people fled as each facility began to fail.  Those that either chose to stay or were unable to flee died due to radiation poisoning.  The death toll grew as the months passed by.  Disease and plagues began to take the rest.  By the end of the first year all forms of Government seemed to have failed.  Those that survived did so by forming smaller communities in isolated areas.  The population on the planet dropped by more than a few million with each passing year.  In the third year since the massive solar flare, more than half of the world's population has perished.  By the end of the fifth year the population would be decreased by more than half once again when the skies darkened.  It was assumed that a massive volcanic eruption was to blame.  No one knew from where the ash came.  The ash would fall for several months and cool the planet.  With temperatures falling all over the world, a new ice age began to takes it's hold.  By the end of the tenth year those that had survived discovered a new threat, as the arrival of strange and deadly animals became more frequent.  The survivors would barricade themselves even further into isolation.  It is in one of those Isolation Posts that our story begins...
